Tap Installation & Repair explained
What it is
We repair dripping and faulty taps and fit new kitchen, bathroom and utility taps, including the connections beneath.
Who it's for
Anyone with a tap that drips, leaks at the base, is stiff to turn, or simply needs replacing.
When you need it
As soon as a tap starts dripping or leaking, or when you're updating a kitchen or bathroom.
Why it pays to get it right
Taps look simple, but leaks often come from the connections underneath. Fitting them properly stops hidden water damage in cabinets.
If it's left
What waiting
really costs
Wasted water
A dripping tap runs every hour of the day.
Damage under the sink
Leaking connections soak cupboard bases and floors out of sight.
Limescale and stains
Constant drips leave marks on basins and sinks.
Worse failures
A worn tap can fail completely, usually at the worst moment.
Common mistakes
- ×Over-tightening a tap to stop a drip.
- ×Buying taps that don't suit the sink or water pressure.
- ×Ignoring a damp cupboard base.
How it works
Our process,
step by step
01
Tell us what's wrong
Call 07463 793992 or send the quote form with a short description. A photo of the problem helps, but isn't essential.
02
Scott takes a look
Scott assesses the problem himself and explains what's causing it, what needs doing and what the options are, before any work starts.
03
The repair or install
The work is carried out at a clear £80 per hour + VAT + parts. No call-out mark-ups hidden in the bill; you know the rate before we arrive.
04
Checked before we leave
Joints, fittings and connections are run and checked under normal use so you aren't left wondering whether the fix will hold.
05
Backed by our guarantee
All of our work is covered by a 2-year workmanship guarantee. If a manufacturer's product fails under its warranty, we'll organise the replacement; labour to fit it is charged.

In detail
Everything to know about
tap installation & repair
Repair or replace?
Some taps can be repaired by replacing worn parts. Others are better replaced. Scott will tell you which makes sense.
Fitting new taps
We fit kitchen, basin, bath and utility taps, including the connections. You can supply your own taps.
What you'll pay, explained
Smaller plumbing jobs are charged at £80 per hour plus VAT and parts. That's the rate, stated up front, so you can weigh up the cost before anyone arrives rather than finding out from the invoice.
Parts are charged on top of labour because they vary so much from job to job, a washer costs very little, a new tap or valve costs more. Scott will tell you what's needed and why before fitting it, so nothing on the bill comes as a surprise.
Who comes to your home
Scott does the work himself. He has 20 years of plumbing and bathroom fitting experience, and the person you speak to about the problem is the person who fixes it. Laura looks after bookings and invoicing, so you have one point of contact for arranging the visit and one person on the tools.
That matters on small jobs as much as big ones. Reviews like Keely Mccrea's, 'always professional, friendly and reply quickly. His work is spot on', come from customers who called us for one job and came back for the next.
Why taps drip
Most drips come from worn internal parts such as washers or cartridges. Over time, these wear down from daily use and from hard water, and the tap stops sealing fully when it's turned off.
Leaks around the base of a tap or in the cupboard below usually come from the connections underneath rather than the tap itself. These are easy to miss and can soak a cupboard base for weeks before you notice.
Kitchen, bathroom and utility taps
Kitchen mixers, basin taps, bath taps, bath-shower mixers and utility taps all fit and connect slightly differently. Scott will check what you have and advise what will work with your sink or basin and your water pressure.
If you're choosing new taps yourself, it's worth checking the number of tap holes in your sink or basin first, and whether the tap is suited to your home's water pressure. If in doubt, ask before you buy.
Availability and call-outs
We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm. We don't offer out-of-hours emergency call-outs, so if water is escaping outside those hours, turn the water off at the stopcock, switch off any electrics affected by the water, and contain what you can. Then give us a call within working hours and we'll help as quickly as we can.
Knowing where your stopcock is before you need it is the single most useful thing you can do. It's usually under the kitchen sink, but in some homes it's in a cupboard, under the stairs or in a downstairs toilet.
Local to Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire
Harrison's is based in Chesterfield and has been trading since January 2021. We work across the town and the surrounding area, including Staveley, Brimington, Wingerworth, Dronfield, Bolsover, Clay Cross, North Wingfield, Eckington, Killamarsh, Matlock and Alfreton.
Being local means the person who quotes your job is the person who turns up to do it, and the business answering your call is run by Scott and Laura themselves, not a call centre. It's also why so many of our customers come back, and why we hold a 100% recommendation rating from 38 Facebook reviews.
We're a Derbyshire Trusted Trader and fully insured, with both public liability and employers liability cover in place. If you'd like to check that we cover your street, or you're not sure whether your job is something we can help with, call Scott on 07463 793992 or send the quote form and Laura will get back to you.
Your guarantee explained
All of our plumbing work is backed by a 2-year workmanship guarantee. If a repair or installation we've carried out isn't right, we'll come back and put it right.
Products such as taps, valves and toilets carry their own manufacturer warranties, which vary by item. If a product fails under its warranty, we'll organise the replacement for you; the labour to fit it is charged. Scott will explain this before fitting anything new.
Preventing problems in the first place
Most plumbing emergencies start as small, ignorable signs: a drip that gets faster, a cistern that hisses, a damp patch that grows. Getting those checked early is almost always cheaper than dealing with the damage later.
Know where your stopcock is and check it turns. Keep an eye on ceilings under bathrooms, look in the cupboards under sinks every so often, and listen for running water when nothing should be on. If anything looks or sounds wrong, give us a call during working hours.
Paying for plumbing work
Quotes are free, and smaller plumbing jobs are charged at £80 per hour plus VAT and parts. You can pay by card (credit or debit), bank transfer or cash.
If a repair turns out to be part of a bigger job, for example a leaking shower that really needs a new enclosure, Scott will explain the options so you can decide what's right for you.
