Radiator Installation & Repair explained

What it is

We fit new radiators, replace old ones, move radiators and repair leaking valves and connections.

Who it's for

Homeowners with cold, leaking or dated radiators, or those reworking a room's layout.

When you need it

When a radiator leaks, won't heat properly, is in the wrong place, or needs updating.

Why it pays to get it right

Leaking radiator valves can damage floors. Fitting radiators properly keeps rooms warm and connections dry.

If it's left

What waiting
really costs

Leaking valves

Drips at radiator valves stain and damage carpets and floorboards.

Cold rooms

A radiator that doesn't heat properly leaves rooms uncomfortable.

Wrong position

A badly placed radiator can make a room hard to furnish.

Common mistakes

  • ×Ignoring a small drip at a valve.
  • ×Choosing a radiator by looks alone.

How it works

Our process,
step by step

  1. 01

    Tell us what's wrong

Call 07463 793992 or send the quote form with a short description. A photo of the problem helps, but isn't essential.

  2. 02

    Scott takes a look

Scott assesses the problem himself and explains what's causing it, what needs doing and what the options are, before any work starts.

  3. 03

    The repair or install

The work is carried out at a clear £80 per hour + VAT + parts. No call-out mark-ups hidden in the bill; you know the rate before we arrive.

  4. 04

    Checked before we leave

Joints, fittings and connections are run and checked under normal use so you aren't left wondering whether the fix will hold.

  5. 05

    Backed by our guarantee

All of our work is covered by a 2-year workmanship guarantee. If a manufacturer's product fails under its warranty, we'll organise the replacement; labour to fit it is charged.

In detail

Everything to know about
radiator installation & repair

Replacing and moving radiators

We can replace radiators like-for-like, fit new styles, or move them to suit your room.

Repairs

Leaking valves and connections are repaired and checked before we leave.

What you'll pay, explained

Smaller plumbing jobs are charged at £80 per hour plus VAT and parts. That's the rate, stated up front, so you can weigh up the cost before anyone arrives rather than finding out from the invoice.

Parts are charged on top of labour because they vary so much from job to job, a washer costs very little, a new tap or valve costs more. Scott will tell you what's needed and why before fitting it, so nothing on the bill comes as a surprise.

Who comes to your home

Scott does the work himself. He has 20 years of plumbing and bathroom fitting experience, and the person you speak to about the problem is the person who fixes it. Laura looks after bookings and invoicing, so you have one point of contact for arranging the visit and one person on the tools.

That matters on small jobs as much as big ones. Reviews like Keely Mccrea's, 'always professional, friendly and reply quickly. His work is spot on', come from customers who called us for one job and came back for the next.

Common radiator problems

Drips from valves and connections are the most common radiator fault. They usually start small, but a constant drip will stain carpets, rot floorboards and, over time, damage the ceiling below.

A radiator that's cold at the top may simply need bleeding, while one that's cold at the bottom or in the middle can point to a build-up inside. Scott will look at what's happening and explain the options.

Choosing a new radiator

Radiators come in many sizes and styles, from standard panel radiators to vertical designs and heated towel rails. The right choice depends on the size of the room, where it can go and the look you want.

Towel radiators are a popular addition to bathroom installations; see our bathroom installation page if you're planning a full refit.

Moving a radiator

Moving a radiator can free up a wall for furniture or make a room feel larger. It involves re-routing the pipework to the new position, and Scott will advise the neatest route in your home.

Availability and call-outs

We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 7pm. We don't offer out-of-hours emergency call-outs, so if water is escaping outside those hours, turn the water off at the stopcock, switch off any electrics affected by the water, and contain what you can. Then give us a call within working hours and we'll help as quickly as we can.

Knowing where your stopcock is before you need it is the single most useful thing you can do. It's usually under the kitchen sink, but in some homes it's in a cupboard, under the stairs or in a downstairs toilet.

Local to Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire

Harrison's is based in Chesterfield and has been trading since January 2021. We work across the town and the surrounding area, including Staveley, Brimington, Wingerworth, Dronfield, Bolsover, Clay Cross, North Wingfield, Eckington, Killamarsh, Matlock and Alfreton.

Being local means the person who quotes your job is the person who turns up to do it, and the business answering your call is run by Scott and Laura themselves, not a call centre. It's also why so many of our customers come back, and why we hold a 100% recommendation rating from 38 Facebook reviews.

We're a Derbyshire Trusted Trader and fully insured, with both public liability and employers liability cover in place. If you'd like to check that we cover your street, or you're not sure whether your job is something we can help with, call Scott on 07463 793992 or send the quote form and Laura will get back to you.

Your guarantee explained

All of our plumbing work is backed by a 2-year workmanship guarantee. If a repair or installation we've carried out isn't right, we'll come back and put it right.

Products such as taps, valves and toilets carry their own manufacturer warranties, which vary by item. If a product fails under its warranty, we'll organise the replacement for you; the labour to fit it is charged. Scott will explain this before fitting anything new.

Preventing problems in the first place

Most plumbing emergencies start as small, ignorable signs: a drip that gets faster, a cistern that hisses, a damp patch that grows. Getting those checked early is almost always cheaper than dealing with the damage later.

Know where your stopcock is and check it turns. Keep an eye on ceilings under bathrooms, look in the cupboards under sinks every so often, and listen for running water when nothing should be on. If anything looks or sounds wrong, give us a call during working hours.

Paying for plumbing work

Quotes are free, and smaller plumbing jobs are charged at £80 per hour plus VAT and parts. You can pay by card (credit or debit), bank transfer or cash.

If a repair turns out to be part of a bigger job, for example a leaking shower that really needs a new enclosure, Scott will explain the options so you can decide what's right for you.
