Cloakroom Installations explained

What it is

A cloakroom is a small downstairs room with a toilet and basin. We install new cloakrooms and update old ones, including the pipework, fittings and finishes.

Who it's for

Families who want a second toilet, people who'd like guests to have their own facilities, and anyone with a dated or awkward downstairs toilet.

When you need it

When one toilet isn't enough, when stairs are becoming harder, or when your existing cloakroom needs updating.

Why it pays to get it right

Cloakrooms are tiny, so the layout and the waste route need careful thought. A well-fitted cloakroom feels neat; a cramped one is a daily annoyance.

If it's left

What waiting
really costs

Leaks behind fittings

Old cloakroom toilets and basins can leak quietly behind and beneath fittings, damaging the floor.

Cramped and impractical

A badly laid-out cloakroom leaves you squeezing past the basin to use the toilet.

One toilet for the whole house

Queues and stairs every time are a constant inconvenience.

A dated first impression

A downstairs toilet is often the room guests see most.

Common mistakes

  • ×Choosing full-size fittings for a compact room.
  • ×Not planning the door swing.
  • ×Overlooking where the waste pipe will run.
  • ×Forgetting about storage.

How it works

Our process,
step by step

  1. 01

    Free quote visit

Scott comes out to your home, measures up and talks through the layout with you. He'll tell you honestly what will work with the space, where the pipework can and can't go, and what will give you the best result for your budget.

  2. 02

    Fixed-price quote

You receive a fixed price for the installation. That price doesn't creep up halfway through. If something unforeseen turns up once the old bathroom is stripped out, we stop and talk it through with you before any extra work goes ahead.

  3. 03

    Options and samples

Once you've accepted the quote, Laura sends over options for you to choose from. Depending on your selections, a home visit with samples follows, for example flooring options or aqua panels, so you can see them in your own light before anything is ordered.

  4. 04

    Installation by the same team

Scott carries out the work with the same trusted team he uses on every job. Laura keeps you updated on what's happening and when, and the space is left clean and tidy at the end of each day.

  5. 05

    Handover and guarantee

Everything is checked and run before we leave. Your installation is backed by our 2-year workmanship guarantee, and manufacturer warranties apply to the products themselves.

What you get

Why choose Harrison's

A price you can plan around

Fixed-price installations mean you know what the bathroom will cost before a single tile comes off the wall.

You're never left chasing

Laura handles bookings, samples and ordering, and keeps you informed at every stage, one of the things our reviews mention most.

Consistent workmanship

Scott has 20 years on the tools and works with the same trusted team on every job, so standards don't change from one day to the next.

Peace of mind afterwards

Every installation carries a 2-year workmanship guarantee, and we're fully insured.

Your suite, your choice

We can supply your bathroom suite, or fit one you've already chosen. Tiles are sourced by you, so you have full control over the look.

A tidy home during the work

The space is cleaned up at the end of each day, something customers like Robert Moreland have called out in their reviews.

In detail

Everything to know about
cloakroom installations

Making a small room work

Compact basins, short-projection toilets and wall-hung options can all help a small cloakroom feel more spacious. Scott will advise what suits your room.

New or replacement

Updating an existing cloakroom uses the pipework that's already there. Adding a new cloakroom needs a suitable route for water and waste, which Scott will assess at the quote visit.

Supply and finishes

We can supply the toilet and basin, or fit your own. Tiles are sourced by you.

Why a second toilet helps

A downstairs toilet takes pressure off the main bathroom at busy times of day, saves trips up the stairs, and gives guests somewhere to go without walking through the house.

For anyone finding stairs harder, a downstairs toilet can make a real difference to daily life.

Storage and finishing touches

Small vanity units, mirrors and well-placed shelving can give a compact cloakroom useful storage without crowding it. Scott will advise what fits comfortably in your space.

Tiles are sourced by you, so you can choose a finish that makes a small room feel brighter and larger.

How the work is priced

Cloakroom installations are quoted at a fixed price after Scott has visited. If something unforeseen comes up during the work, it's discussed with you before going ahead.

Local to Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire

Harrison's is based in Chesterfield and has been trading since January 2021. We work across the town and the surrounding area, including Staveley, Brimington, Wingerworth, Dronfield, Bolsover, Clay Cross, North Wingfield, Eckington, Killamarsh, Matlock and Alfreton.

Being local means the person who quotes your job is the person who turns up to do it, and the business answering your call is run by Scott and Laura themselves, not a call centre. It's also why so many of our customers come back, and why we hold a 100% recommendation rating from 38 Facebook reviews.

We're a Derbyshire Trusted Trader and fully insured, with both public liability and employers liability cover in place. If you'd like to check that we cover your street, or you're not sure whether your job is something we can help with, call Scott on 07463 793992 or send the quote form and Laura will get back to you.

Your guarantee and product warranties

Every installation is backed by our 2-year workmanship guarantee. That covers the work we carry out, the fitting, the connections and the finish, so if something we've installed isn't right, we come back and put it right.

Bathroom products such as taps, showers, toilets and furniture also carry their own manufacturer warranties. These vary from product to product. If a product fails under its warranty, we'll organise the replacement for you; the labour to fit the replacement is charged. Scott will explain this clearly when you choose your products, so you know where you stand before anything is ordered.

Supplying your own products

Plenty of customers already know exactly which bath, shower or vanity unit they want. You're welcome to supply your own suite and we'll fit it, or we can supply it for you, whichever is easier.

Tiles are always sourced by the customer. If you're choosing tiles, it's worth doing so early in the process so they're ready in good time. Alternatives such as aqua panels and different flooring options can be shown at a samples visit depending on your selections.

Paying for your bathroom

Quotes are free. Installations are quoted at a fixed price, so the figure you agree to is the figure you plan around. If something unforeseen turns up, for example, damage hidden behind an old bath panel, we'll show you and discuss it before going ahead.

You can pay by card (credit or debit), bank transfer or cash.
